Jobs in film 和 television will keep you busy, 和 Rob Price’s role is no exception. 的 电脑动画 grad is a Visual Effects Supervisor for Zoic Studios, where he’s led VFX teams on Netflix shows like 布莱庄园闹鬼午夜弥撒. 罗布的高水平动画技能, 多年行业经验, 和 knack for problem solving helped him l和 a VFX role that he loves.

Rob spent a few years after high school figuring out what he wanted to do; he eventually decided to combine his love of art 和 movies to digitally create art for TV 和 film. He signed up for 满帆’s 电脑动画 program 和 quickly got a taste of the 动画 industry’s expectations.

“It's been interesting that a lot of the tight turnarounds at 满帆 really did cross over into the actual industry,罗布记得. “在工作中, you need to figure everything out 和 do it the fastest way possible… Figuring things out 和 critical thinking are two of the things that you have to have at 满帆 because you learn a br和 new thing every month on different software, 你只需要让它成功. 这也是这个行业将要发生的事情.”

毕业后, Rob moved to Los Angeles with a couple of his 满帆 classmates 和 picked up some freelance work 和 entry-level gigs. He worked as a compositor for a few different studios before l和ing at Zoic Studios, 和 he’s spent the last eight years there as a Visual Effects Supervisor.

Most visual effects work takes place in the post-production process, He meets with the project’s director 和 other department heads to determine the show’s visual effects needs 和 work out a budget. Rob keeps in close contact with additional supervisors 和 department heads who work in CG, 合成, 跟踪, 布局, 性格发展, 资产建设, 和更多的. 他回顾了各种日常的组件,如照明, 动画, 以及角色的资产构建, 随着生产的进行, he reviews 合成 和 final shots before they get delivered to clients. All of the cross-departmental work makes communication 和 problem solving essential.

“One of the most important things I've always found for visual effects is your ability to problem-solve,他说. “的re’s always something that you need to figure out 和 find the best solution to, which is often a group effort… Talking [to other people on the production] is the best way to get the best results; you lean on everybody's opinion. But problem solving is probably the most important thing for any part of visual effects work, 在我看来.”

That commitment to communication is reaping dividends for Rob: His visual effects team on Netflix’s 爱吃甜食 was recently nominated for Outst和ing Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode for the 20th annual Visual Effects Society Awards. Rob’s team used tools like drones 和 virtual production technology to make the episode st和 out.

“We're doing pre-production visual effects to go on an LED wall that we then film with, which creates a really nice marriage of inspiration for the final shot. 为 爱吃甜食, 我们在Unreal(一款电子游戏引擎)中使用了许多环境。, 以及电影元素的结合. When they're going down the gondola, we actually flew a drone down the side of a mountain. 的n we put in all the CG gondola towers 和 cables 和 everything, 和 then we filmed on set with all that stuff playing around the actors,罗布解释道.

的 creativity that Rob gets to display on these popular Netflix shows makes his job a coveted role, 但他不是靠自己来的. Rob wouldn’t be where he is without the relationships he forged along the way.

“A giant part of my success has been working just as hard or harder than other people 和 getting recognized for it. Try not to hold yourself back; put yourself out there 和 don't be afraid. A lot of things with short contracts are a little bit scary but just have confidence in yourself that connections you make during this project will lead to the next one, 因为这在我身上发生过很多次.”
